From 2005-2007 the Sony BMG CD copy protection rootkit scandal took place. Sony implemented copy protection software in around 22 million CD's.

MGM:

In 2005 the MGM Studios, Inc. v. Grokster, Ltd case occurred. The Supreme Court of the
United States unanimously decided that Grokster could be sued by MGM for copyright
infringment.
